Release of the 10 m WorldCover map

Two years after its kick-off the ESA WorldCover consortium is pleased to release the 10 m WorldCover map, a new global baseline land cover product for 2020 based on Sentinel 1 and Sentinel 2 data. Project coordinator Ruben Van De Kerchove explains more about the ESA WorldCover project, data processing pipeline and the free and open access via the WorldCover viewer.

In 2019 we kicked-off ESA’s WorldCover project. An ambitious project set up to develop a new global land cover map at 10 m resolution to provide valuable information for many applications such as biodiversity, food security, carbon assessment and climate modelling!

Now, two years later we are proud to release this new global baseline land cover product for 2020 with unprecedented detail. The WorldCover map is the first global land cover product based on both Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 data. Discover more about WorldCover and how this new global map can benefit your application.
